If your favorite dinner spot or local grocery store is suddenly closed today, it might well be because of the Day Without Immigrants protest.
The day of action is intended to show the importance of immigrants in local communities and to the nation’s economy. The protest began, like many, on social media and has spread nationally as a statement against President Donald Trump’s vow to deport immigrants who entered the country illegally and his call for a ban on immigrants from seven Muslim-majority countries.
In San Francisco, an 11 a.m. rally is planned at Justin Herman Plaza, followed by a noon march up Market to Civic Center where another rally will be held.
